Business In 2010 A New Face of Marketing

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

The term “internet marketing” was virtually non-existent a short 8 years ago, now it is a growing phenomenon that is raking millions every year. Because of this expanding industry, the internet landscape it changing. Where are the changes going to be? I fully expect a growth in interactive end-user experiences – an online environment catering to the individual preferences of a singular visitor. I also foresee a massive change in the way we market online. A change could include “personalized” advertisements embedded so deeply into the product that the user does not realize it as an ad.

Where is this marketing going? Where will it be in 2010? Here are some ideas:

Personal Ads:

Not “Single white male seeks.”. Advertisements displaying personalized data to the end user. This trend has started with products like Google’s AdWords, where visitors are greeted with ads specific to the content on the page. With the free flow of personal information on the internet, it is feasible that in a few years, the advertisements could be as specific as, “Bob, the Buick is over due for an oil change, here are the 3 closest Quick Lubes”

Advertisement Channels:

Cable channels are expanding so quickly it is hard to keep up, soon, we could be surfing over to channel 1430 for the “2010 Chevrolet Series”, where we actually sit down and watch a one hour special on Chevy’s – this mode of advertisement would work for a couple of reasons:

- It is highly targeted

Current television advertising (commercials) often get the MUTE button treatment or we get up to get more popcorn, leaving an unknown number of viewers watching the 30 second ad.

- Accepting market

When viewer tune in specifically for a product, your message effectiveness grows exponentially. For example, if you the viewer are not interested in the “Home Depot Shed Products” advertisement channel, don’t watch. For those of you who are interested in home and garden and Do It Yourself, this channel would serve as your personal how-to expert. Home Depot reaches only those interested in their product while maintaining their orange apron image.

Customized Webpages:

On some webpages now, a visitor can change the color and theme of the webpage. This makes for a more enjoyable destination – leading to more recurring visitors. Once a user has spent the time to build their own portal, they will return and use that as their primary resource of information (think MSN).

Webpages of the future must be able to support a “no two alike” mentality. End users must have the option of customizing their content, color, theme, and functionality.

The changes are on the horizon, prepare your business to capture visitors and give them the “one-on-one” feeling.

How to Add Warmth, Color & Texture to Your Advertisements

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

“A powerful agent is the right word” –Mark Twain

And what true words those are! Your marketing efforts have the ability to succeedor to failbased on the words you choose to represent your products, services, and yourself in your ads.

You have the ability to choose any words you desire. The problem is, sometimes, we draw a blank. Our minds seem amiss of anything creative to say. This is when a diverse collection of pre-written phrases, designed to bring miraculous changes to your ads, comes in handy.

A collection of pre-written phrases, which you can drop right into your ad text, offers a lot of magic, a good deal of choices, and an incredible journey through words which develop warmth, color, and add texture to your ads. With pre-written buzz-word phrases, you can bring your ad to life – immediately.

So how do you come up with these phrases and buzz words?

Step one is to become aware of every advertisement you’re exposed to, whether it be on television, in a newspaper, in email, or in a magazine. Just pay attention and study those ads.

Step two involves gathering your pre-written phrases. Write down words which make an impact on you. Make a notebook, or a computer document, and as you are exposed to the ads around you, jot down those phrases and buzz words. Here’s some phrases and words I jotted down recently:

Accept nothing but the best
Because you’re worth it
Consider it a gift from youto you

The third step is to take these phrases and integrate them into your ads. The best way to do this is work with an ad which you’ve already written. How much impact does it have? How much sparkle and pizzaz does it possess? Does your already-written ad grab your attention? If the answer is NO, then it’s time to input some marketing miracle phrases – sprinkle them about your ad, pick some from your list which fit with your product or service – and revise.

Let’s take a look at an ad I found written by someone who is not using marketing miracle phrases:

“New ladies brown leather coat. Size XL.”

The ad for this item really didn’t capture my attention. The photo of the item did – it’s a nice product! Let’s see how the actual ad can be spruced up with the use of some marketing miracle phrases:

“Give radiance to everything when you wear this exquisite, full-length, chocolate brown leather coat. For lovers of fine quality everywhere, you’ll experience comfort and luxury, for just a fraction of the retail price. Handsomely crafted, it will make a chic addition to your winter wardrobe. Ladies size XL.”

See the difference? Using marketing miracle words gives you a new way of impacting your buyers with words and phrases designed to bypass the mind, get your product deep into their heart and soul, and reach the core of their deepest desires.

So why not try it with your own ads? Just follow the three steps in this article to add warmth, color and texture to your ads. See the change in your ads, and the change in your bottom line sales figures. Good luck!

Creating Your Own Pixel Advertising Site

Monday, October 12th, 2009

As I promised in my previous article “Pixel Advertising – A new trend in Online Advertising”, this is a guide on how to build your pixel ad site. The best part of making this site is you don’t need to buy an expensive script; all you need is the cost of registering a domain and web hosting.

To make it easy for you to follow, I organized it step by step.

Step 1
Register the domain name you will use for the site.

Step 2
Prepare the web hosting account for the site.

Step 3
Create a mysql database and user in your hosting account. Make sure the database account has full access to the database. If you are using cPanel, just click on the mysql icon.

Step 4
Download the FREE pixel ad script at www.pixeladraptor.com and uncompress it to your PC.

Step 5
Locate and edit the file config.php and enter the details of the mysql database you created in step 3. You will also have to enter an admin user account and password.

Step 6
Using an FTP program (I use smartftp, its FREE), upload all the files to your site. Iif you want the pixel site to run in the root domain (www.xxx.com), you have to upload the files in the root folder (usually in public_html). If you want the pixel site to run on a subdomain or specific folder, you have to make sure you upload it to the right folder.

Step 7
After uploading the files, access the admin site which is under www.yourdomain.com/admin/ using the admin account you entered in Step 5.

Step 8
Click on the “Settings” tab and enter all the details asked on that page.

That’s it.

If you installed the scripts in the root domain, you will be able to access the pixel ad site by typing www.yourdomain.com. If you installed it in a subdomain, enter www.yoursubdomain.yourdomain.com. If you installed it in a specific folder, enter www.yourdomain.com/yourfolder/

Advertise to Millions #2 – Classified Ads, E-zine Promotion, Safe Lists

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Introduction:

This is a series of articles about marketing and advertising. There are different ways you can reach an audience of millions of individuals all around the world. I show you on this series how to implement profitable strategies in your marketing career.

It has been said that “what matters is not what you sell but how you promote it.” So, the secret to success lays within your marketing techniques. That’s why it is very important for business owners to develop skills which allow them to increase the sales of their products.

One of the most important skills you must have is the ability to reach a lot of people quickly. To do this you need to realize how powerful media is an how it can drastically increase your revenues.

- Classified ads -

Free classified ads are another way you can advertise online at no cost to you. They represent on the Internet what a newspaper ad represents on the streets. You can post ads to thousands of web sites and reach millions of internet users.

The drawback of this strategy is that it is time consuming, but once you get used to it you will realize which are the easier ad sections to post to and the most effective ones. It may take some time though before you discover those that fit you well.
You can post your ads to the following websites:

http://classifieds.excite.com/

http://finditclassifieds.com

http://washingtonpost.com

Among others.

- E-zine promotion -

You can post an add to a vast amount of individuals by submitting it to many different e-zines at once. This is simple and free. Just go to http://www.subscribeme.net/ read the information they provide for you there and complete their form.

Your ad will be displayed in hundreds of e-zines all over the Internet. There is a combined amount of more than 1,000,000 subscribers at those web sites, so you will gain a lot of exposure from them.

I think it is better if you use an alternate e-mail address for this purpose. You can get a free email address from Yahoo. When I joined the list I received many messages every day.

This technique could bring you additional traffic. The only problem I see is that most other individuals also join the list to advertise to other people as you do. So, the goal of most subscribers is to sell products, not to buy them.

I think though it is a good way to diversify your trading strategies. You could give it a try and see if it works for you. Remember to use an alternate email address and read their terms and conditions first.

- Safe lists -

Safe lists are lists of e-mail addresses from people who have requested to receive messages and information about a specific topic. As you probably already know to deliver comments or advertisement via e-mail to others without their consent or authorization is called spamming and is illegal.

Also if you spam others do not expect to receive a reasonable response rate from them. What do I mean? I mean that you can send a message to millions of individuals, but if they are not interested in what you are selling and they didn’t requested that information from you, then you will probably make very few sales, plus you will receive a lot of complaints from hundreds of them.

Then what is the smart way to advertise using e-mail addresses? The answer is safe lists. Think about it. This people are looking for information related to the products or services you are selling. Many of them are even getting paid to read your messages. This technique is also called advertising to targeted opt-in mailing lists. You can create your own list of subscribers.

You can join Yahoo groups http://groups.yahoo.com/ or Google groups http://groups.google.com/ and start your own newsletter. The way you get subscribers is by posting valuable information there that your visitors would like to read. You can also join any of the companies bellow:

Bravenet

http://www.bravenet.com/

Topica

http://www.topica.com/

Zinester

http://www.zinester.com/

Your mailing list provider

http://www.yourmailinglistprovider.com/

Coollist

http://www.coollist.com/

Now, keep in mind that building your own list of subscribers takes time. Some people prefer to pay others for the privilege of advertising on their lists. For example, www.e-mailpaysu.com offer you the opportunity to advertise to their subscribers for a fee. This is just an example. There are many other companies like these on the Internet today and their prices vary.

As you can see, this techniques can increase your exposure and help you get more clients. You can read about other effective marketing techniques from my other articles on this series.

6 Ways To Get More From Your Promotions

Monday, August 17th, 2009

1. Settle On The Right Way Forward

The purpose of your promotions is to get more sales, not to soley enhance the image of you or your company. As a salesperson you must understand this right at the beginning or you will be wasting your’s and every one else’s time.

You must be enthusiastic about the product or service you are promoting. If you’re not why should the customer be?

Communicate with the customer on their level and talk about what they want from your offering. Its a simple enough way forward. But how often do you not hear this being done?

2. Start To Target Your Customers

Not all customers will buy your product or service. The skill is in targetting those who are more likely to. The end result is more sales and reduced costs for contacting them. Amongst customers there are good ones and bad ones.

The good ones are repeat buyers; those who have bought before and are happy to use their favorite supplier. Unfortunately, this type of customer is least likely to be swayed by advertisers lile yourselves and therefore hardest to win over.

Conversely, the bad customers are far more likely to respond to advertisers, including you, then move on to another advertiser, leaving you behind…and they always complain and want more and more for less and less.

You want more business…the right sort of business… the profitable sort. To be as exact as possible is very important.

Finding the best ones for you;
Apparently only the top 20% of potential customers are very profitable and the bottom 20% will lose you money.

Therefore, depending on where your company stands in relation to the above there are diferent strategies to use;

  • If you are not currently selling to the top 20% then you could increase your market share of customers and make good profit. – concentrating on the top 20% means less customers need to be obtained.

  • If you are already selling to the top 20% then any increase in customer numbers (market share) means less overall profitabilty

Finding repeat customers:
Apart from new customers, the obvious source of more sales is existing customers. This is often forgotten and the costs are small in comparison to getting new customers. Customers who have bought before are less likely to be wooed by competitors, as long as they are happy. Or should I say, kept happy.

Some budget should be set aside for existing customers and establishing or reinforcing some ‘Loyalty’ strategies or scheme. You know the sort..Discounts for existing customers and repeat purchasers.

3. Supply Customer Satisfaction

If you can convince your customers that they will be more satisfied than with your competitors then you will win. But to do that you need to know;

a) what satisfaction they want
b) how you can provide it and

c) how to tell them.

Customers are satisfied when all their needs are fulfilled. But it would be practically impossible to satisfy everyone’s needs in one communication…there will be so many. And mass marketing rarely hits on the most profitable segment.

That it why it is important to target specific groups who have similar needs with specific advertisement messages.

4. Identify Important Customer Groups

Large companies can afford to send out separate promotions to lots of different customer groups, addressing their specific needs exactly.

Smaller businesses can’t do this but there may be common needs amongst their customer groups, albeit not primary ones for all of them, but enough commonality to be effective for one promotional publication.

This one publication should wherever possible combine the customer groups and their satisfied needs into its structure (story). e.g. Combining the primary manufacturer customer group and secondary retail customer group, the producer and the seller.

5. Use People Who Can Make Things Happen

Identify those who can help you in your promotions.

  • Directors of other companies who can recommend to departments within their control.

  • Press release about your product/service
  • Product/service review by recognized authority.
  • Establish referral system (you pay a commission or similar for sales/work obtained)

Incentives for all your ‘helpers’ will vary and need to be judged carefully. But remember, your competitors will be doing the same and maybe to the same people you are dealing with. Its promotion after all, so bear that in mind.

6. Find Out How Much Your Customers Know About You

You need to find out from your prospective or new customers what they know about you. This can done through surveys and questionnaires (with incentives to complete). After all they might never have heard of you and are hardly likely to buy from you.

They may be misinformed and have the totally wrong impresion of what you do or supply. Sales promotions can’t be planned properly without this information.

How to Use Your Advertisement Space Judiciously

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Now you have a good website featuring your products or services. You may want to generate additional income from the Advertisement space available in your website. Of course for many, it’s the main source of their income. But, if you place your advertisement without any parameters, you will end up spoiling the reputation of your website.

Some of the guidelines to place your advertisement are the following:

Never give advertisements more prominence than your own content. Your content must be clear and should adore the center of the web page. Advertisement can go on the right side of your content or at the bottom.

Never place the Advertisement on the left side of your web page. Since we start reading from the left side, the content should be noticed first. You can place menu on the left side, if you choose to.

Place advertisements in such a way that it should match with the content you have published in a page. In other words, the content should be able justify the advertisements you are providing. This will prompt the viewers to turn their attention to the advertisements also. Contextual Advertisements helps a lot in this direction. These advertisements, select the advertisements automatically and to the context, which best suites the current content of a web.

Try different layout and analyze the result. Adhere to one, which is able to generate more advertisement income.

Roommate Advertisements – 5 Essential Ingredients For Creating The Perfect Ad

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Does your roommate advertisement jump out of the page and catch your reader’s attention? If you feel your advertisement doesn’t capture the imagination of potential roommates, these tips can help you. The key is to design an advertisement that’s a balance between letting people know what kind of roommate is right for you while showing potential roommates why you would be their perfect roommate.

You can attract the right people by including 5 key ingredients in your advertisement. These ingredients let you write a free flowing concise advertisement where the reader can decide straight away if it’s a good idea to contact you. Together with a positive tone, your advertisement will stand out and be remembered even after your potential roommate has read many advertisements.

The length of your advertisement also plays a vital role in finding the right roommate. You will need to decide how much space you wish to dedicate to each ingredient without your advertisement becoming too brief or long-winded. The easiest ways to find the right length is by trial and error or asking for a second opinion.

So, what are the 5 key ingredients to include in your advertisement? Let’s take a look and find out more about each one.

1. Rent and Bond/Security Deposit

Clearly stating the rent per week, any additional expenses and if a bond/security deposit needs to be paid lets people decide if they can afford to live with you as a roommate. Ideally, your advertisement should mention if the rent already includes expenses or whether they’re extra.

2. Residence and Location

In your advertisement you should mention the suburb/town and the type of dwelling you are living in. For readers to get a better picture you should include a brief description of amenities such as the number of bedrooms. You may also wish to list benefits such as cable TV, internet connection or scenic views.

3. Roommates

You should mention the number of roommates that live in your household. It lets potential roommates know how many people they would be living with and whether it’s suitable for them. This screens out any people who would like to live in a smaller or larger household.

4. Roommate Ingredients

Your advertisement should state the top 2-3 traits you are looking for in a roommate, for example, an outgoing female who is a non-smoker. Listing these traits can act as a screening process and indicates to potential roommates what kind of roommate is right for you.

5. Local Amenities

It’s important to list local amenities such as local shops, Cafes or transport. This will attract people to your advertisement, as these benefits are often a determining factor when looking for a roommate. A good example are students who may wish to live near public transport and close to College.

These ingredients let you create an informative advertisement where potential roommates can learn about your household while finding out which kind of roommate is right for you. Just remember, by simply adding each essential ingredient to your roommate advertisement, you too, can capture the eye of your perfect roommate.

Good Luck and Happy Roommate Hunting!

Harvesting Leads from Yahoo Groups

Friday, April 24th, 2009

You may use this article for reprint if it
remains unaltered and includes the author
information and resource box. – Isaiah Hull

Harvesting Leads from Yahoo Groups

If you own an internet business or you’re involved in an
affliate program and you’re having trouble getting traffic
to your website or gateway, consider Yahoo Groups as an
option to expand your visibility. You can sign up for
dozens of these groups tonight–some which have subscriber
bases of over 10,000 people–and then submit your ad to
them immediately.

Before you begin, you’ll need to determine what approach
you’re going to take for this. There are two ways to
generate traffic through Yahoo Groups: 1) by submitting
your ad to groups that are specifically looking for ADS;
or 2) by providing a free service, such as a business
advice article, a free ebook, or anything else you can
think of that might help someone in you shoes – and then
adding your resource box at the bottom, giving a link to
your website or product. I personally would suggest doing
both if you want to get the best results. There aren’t that
many groups that allow shameless promotions – and the ones
that do are generally saturated with them.

Your next step is to get a text-editor/writing program
that allows you to format your documents by characters-per-line
(I would suggest getting the free trial version of textpad- http://www.textpad.com).
Once you have this text-editor setup, type or copy-and-
paste your ad, article, or whatever else you’re going to
use into the text-editor and then format it for 55
characters-per-line (most submission forms require you
to use 55-60 characters-per-line; if you do not, they’ll
reject your submission out-right).

Once you have done this, you’ll want to sign up for a
Yahoo email account if you do not have one already. This
is free and you can do it easily by going to Yahoo.com
and filling in your information.

Next you’ll want to head to http://groups.yahoo.com ,
where you’ll find a directory of Yahoo Groups. You will
want to find groups that coincide with whatever product
or service you are selling. For instance, I sell marketing
and business-building tools. When I go to Yahoo Groups, I
go to Business & Finance and then to Marketing.

You should have a pretty good selection for whatever you
plan to market. There are hundreds of groups and–as I
mentioned earlier–some of them have over 10,000 members
currently. Sign up for as many of these groups as possible.

Just click on the group. Click to sign up – and then fill
in your information. Make sure you have all of the boxes
filled in and then submit the form. For most of the groups,
you will receive an email in your inbox immediately. Others
will take a few days.

Your next step is to read all of the new emails in your
inbox. Check out the rules list for all of the new groups
you just signed up for. Make sure your article, service,
or whatever you’re posting conforms to all of the rules.
Now go back to your groups. You should see a list of
groups you’re in with “Post” next to the group name.
Begin posting it to each individual group, making sure
you follow the rules. Also make sure it includes your
resource box.

Now you wait. The submission process can take a while.
Most posts have to be manually reviewed by group
editors/moderators, while others will go up immediately.
Sometimes you’ll receive a letter from the editor, saying
whether it was posted or rejected and sometimes you wont.
Once you start receving the submission responses, that
means people can now read your article or ad.

Congratulations – you just advertised to an ENORMOUS
group of targeted potential leads for no cost whatsoever.

Now sit back, relax, and watch the hits accumulate on
your website.

Tips To Keyword Efficiency

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Internet marketing is fast becoming the advertising method of choice of small businesses. They get maximum exposure and internet traffic from prospective purchasers and customers. In fact, according to ISP Interland, small home businesses and medium scale companies (SMBs) are getting returns that are significantly higher because of their online marketing strategy. Also, more than half of business owners are saying that the increase in their monthly revenues are due to online purchases. Aside from this, most of their offline sales are due to the influence of their websites and online marketing.

However, it is surprising that not all are using search engine optimization when in recent years, search engines are essential tools for buyers. Instead of companies and businesses looking for clients online, it is the buyers that are looking for worthy purchases on the internet. Studies and surveys show that over two-thirds of SMBs’ online and offline sales are fueled by online researches. It is therefore crucial for SMBs’ products, services, and company names to appear in these searches. Visibility in search engines is part of a good and efficient internet marketing plan, but merely appearing on these searches. What these SMBs need are effective keywords that draw customers in and not just visitors.

Visibility in search engines is effectively linked to credibility and brand awareness. Sally Falkow, an online marketing specialist suggests that optimizing press releases gives SMBs excellent visibility and keep them on the consumers’ radar. Falkow provides another useful tip: giving these releases “news” appeal gives them credibility. Aside from these general tips from a specialist, there are other guides that SMBs rely on in internet marketing.

Researching and testing keywords is an effective way to find the most popular combinations. Sites like WordTracker and Overture help in selecting keywords. Internet marketing optimization benefits from the use of phrases rather than a single word as keyword. Jill Whalen, search consultant for High Rankings, says that more specific keywords draw and attract real customers and not just people who are browsing around. It is also important to mix general terms and specific words as keywords; this way, SMBs draw in all prospective clients. It is also a good idea to include the company name and title tags as part of the keywords. The use of jargon is also a good idea especially if the SMBs’ products are industry-specific. Linking keyworded articles to other articles or sites is also an effective strategy. Lastly, it is vital that SMBs be honest about the service and product that they offer to avoid disappointed buyers. It is one thing to advertise a product and a completely different thing to exaggerate about its features.

The World Cup – Of Advertising

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Click on the Google Image and you get the search results for “2006 World Football.”

I admire those images. Like at the time of the Olympic Games, everyday another picture showing the center of the Games; one day water polo, athletics, hockey, short track … “Although,” — you might think — “we are a virtual company, when there are games, we are there too; right by your side.” Google was right there. And now again, The World Cup. Again the image shows: ” we are with you.”

But then the opening game itself. Germany (4) – Costa Rica (2). You may have seen it. And you may have seen the advertisements as well. If you have observed the advertisements you recall one company that had a particular presence.

Amongst the “normal” advertisers we found:

  • Philips, Braun, McDonald’s, Coca Cola, Avaya, Continental, Toshiba, FIFA WorldCup itself, Fujifilm, Hyundai, Adidas, Mastercard, T-Com, and maybe I’ve missed one (or two…).

Now which company was also present amongst those earthly giants?
The only Virtual Company that was present, was the very – YAHOO!
For about two hours, an audience of millions of people turned their back to their PC’s and notebooks and switched on the television. Prime time advertisement. And Yahoo was there, playing the marketing game. In the lead.

Despite Googles’ beautiful picture, I think this marketing move was won by its’ opponent. First half: Google (0) – Yahoo (1).
