Make Money with Your Blog – Really

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

If you are interested in creating your own blog to make money then read on.

1.The first thing you need to do is to decide what you want to write about:
I write about making money online because I feel that I have some experience that will help others out. You can try and figure out what subject pays the most or you can write about what you know best. If you are curious to know what people are paying for particular keywords, you can find out here. Just make sure that you choose a subject that you know something about and can offer something of value for your readers.

2. Purchase a domain name and hosting:
You can get a domain name from mightydomains.com for $8.99/yr. You will also need to choose a hosting company (That is where your website will reside). You can get web hosting for $7.95/mo from ipowerweb.com. That is a good price as I have shopped around. You can probably get it for a little cheaper somewhere else but it will most likely not have the best customer service to help with problems quickly.

3. Download free blogging software:
You can download free blogging software from Wordpress which is awesome and is pretty easy to set up. I will be posting more later on how to setup and customize your Wordpress blog.

4. Choose which affiliates and Ads that you will display on your blog:
There are many affiliates to choose from but I would suggest going with a couple in the beginning that have been tested by the blogging community and pay promptly. Chitika pays well and is a good source of my income. You can also make decent money with Google Adsense if you set it up right. If you are really serious about finding out how to make the most from Adsense you can read this e-book. All you want to know about Adsense is in that book. There are a few other good affiliate programs but I would start out with those two so that you don’t get overwhelmed. Once you sign up for the programs you will need to put them in your blog template with the code they give you.

Using Email to Market Creatively

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

The average employee corresponds to other companies via e-mail over ten times a day

Ten times a day is a rather frequently, especially when you look at it over the span of the whole company. Even a small company with 5 people, you are sending out fifty e-mails a day.

Now consider turning your email into a subtle marketing campaign. That is fifty potential advertisements a day, possibly more. Even if you are responding back and forth with the same people, each time they see the advertisement they are more likely to be interested. Think about how many times you see the same commercial on TV before you buy a product/service/etc.

So now the question is what can you do to turn your email into a marketing campaign.

The best way to go about it is to be as subtle as possible. People are very sensitive to spam now days, and if you make an e-mail full of images and HTML they are likely to be turned off quickly.

My best recommendation is to use your signature, insert links to pages of your site where you have affiliate links, services, products, etc for sale. That way every time they read your e-mail they are likely to see them.

However – this is not a new idea, and you may already be doing this. There is a twist, and that is how you are labeling your links and additional text that you can put with it.

Instead of just putting “Joes Plumbing” and linking it to your website, think of some aspect of your website that would interest people into going. Change the link to “Why pay a plumber to do a five minute job?” and link to your page where you have some basic how-to’s.

Further, you can add additional text to help increase the interest of every person who reads your e-mail. Every week put a different quote in the signature below your link, taken from an interesting part of your website.

For example –

Why pay a plumber to do a five minute job?

Making Money From Your Web Site

You’ve created a great site with lots of great content and you have chosen your web host. So big question what’s next? Unless you are especially altruistic (and if you search the web, you’ll be surprised to see just how many people are), you’ll probably want to make some money out of your efforts. But how do you turn this stream of dots on a screen into a revenue stream? Here are a few pragmatic tips that might help basic steps that will get you started and (hopefully) start you thinking.

How will people find my site?

Before you can make money from your site, people have to visit it – it’s as simple as that. Your first job then is to get people to visit your site. It doesn’t matter whether you have the best site in the world, if people can’t find it you are never going to get any visitors. Getting your site known means using search engines, and to get you started, that means submitting to a few of the key engines, particularly Google.

Luckily, there are a number of free web sites that help people to submit sites to search engines. The one I use is Addme.com. This has a very simple interface which guides you through submitting to a number of engines including Subjex, Alexa, Scrub The Web, FAST Search AllTheWeb, LookSeek, Jayde, InfoTiger, NerdWorld, Aeiwi, Walhello, LifeTips, ExactSeek, and EntireWeb. Most importantly, Addme.com gets you into Google. You might want to supplement this with a registration to MSN and Yahoo! (outside Google two of the biggest players) although I have never found registration to the latter particularly easy. Take a look around on the Internet – you might see others submission sites that I don’t know about that will help you out with Yahoo! In fact there are thousands of search engines you need to submit to, but for now, until the ball starts rolling, this will do. Don’t make the mistake many people do – don’t hit as many registration sites as possible in order to increase your chances of a good placing. It doesn’t work like that – submitting to the same engine many times actually does the opposite. In fact, it could get you completely banned from a search engine. And don’t submit specific pages of your web site as an alternative – it won’t help. The search engines are smart enough to recognize the similarities between www.yoursite.com and www.yoursite.com/page1.html!

How will people even know my site exists?

OK – so search engines are going to direct people to your site, but that’s not the whole story. If you had a regular business, a ‘bricks and mortar’ business, you’d want to let as many people as possible know as quickly as possible that you have started operations, right? Why would an Internet business be any different? As soon as you are up and running, make sure you send out Press Releases. Fortunately, there are now countless Press Release sites on the Internet, most are free; some provide a much more expansive coverage for only a few dollars. Here are a few good ones: http://www.prweb.com http://businesswire.com http://www.prnewswire.com http://www.free-press-release.com http://www.free-press-release.com http://www.theopenpress.com http://www.prleap.com http://www.openpress.com http://www.pr.com http://openpr.com

Have a good look through these sites; many have articles on how to write a successful Press Release. A well written Press Release will significantly increase your chances of getting visitors to your site.

What about directories? Should I use them?

One of the other ways of getting people to your site is registering to directories. There is every possible type of directory on the Internet. They are comprised of lists of items related to a specific topic – travel directories, used car directories, etc. You will almost certainly find a directory to meet your needs. One good one is Craig’s List. This site gets hundreds of thousands of visitors a day and people who list their sites here can get up to 800 visitors a day immediately! Don’t stop there though. If you look around the Internet you can actually find services which, for a small fee, will find directories for you and place your details in them. Generally they are not too expensive.

Should I advertise?

Aside from press releases and directories, you can also pay for advertisements that link to your site. Of course that can be very expensive, but there are a number of cheap alternatives currently available. Particularly popular at the moment are ‘Pixel Ad’ sites. These sites allow you to buy small amounts of adverting that is stuck on a single page. The ‘father’ of these web sites was Alex Tew’s ‘MillionDollarHomepage’ but there are now scores A search for ‘pixel ad’ in Google reveals the following: www.pixeladmall.com www.milliondollarspixel.com www.freepixeladvertising.com

The list goes on and on and on and on and on and is likely to continue growing! How do I make my site make money? By now you should have a few people visiting your site, which is a good start. Without them you won’t have a chance of generating revenue! But how do you start making money now the visitors are coming? One of the problems with the Internet is that everyone wants, and (because of the history of the Internet – DOT COM Boom, etc.) to some extent expects to become at least a millionaire overnight. Very few people do this (the ‘MillionDollarHomePage’ mentioned above took 5 months to make Alex Tew his million – I doubt the other sites listed are even close) and you should start small. Think of making a dollar a day as a good start on the way to something better, rather that an outright disaster that makes you think about quitting! In my experience, if your objective is to make a living from a web site, there are ways and means of achieving this, no matter what the subject area of your site or your current circumstances.

Smart Business Owners Advertise with Two Things in Mind

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

The marketing field is flooded with sources and experts. How does a business owner weed through these sources – and all their advice – to find someone who can help grow businesses effectively and affordably? Smart business owners always advertise with two things in mind: 1. The Ten Commandments of Marketing; 2. The Ten Commandments of the Bible.

The Ten Commandments of Marketing

1. Get a marketing plan. Even the simplest of plans can help business owners avoid wasting literally thousands of dollars and sometimes years of lost business growth.
2. A business owner’s main focus should be on growing business. Hire consultants to handle accounting, taxes, marketing or any other tasks that may distract from growing business.
3. Business owners should know their customers. Their customer is not they or their spouse or their best friend. They should constantly talk to real customers and test their message on them.
4. Pick a niche. No one is going to believe that one business or product is the best, the fastest and the cheapest. Pick one. And stick with it.
5. Advertise products’ benefits – not their features. Customers don’t care about the 786-megawatt superconductor. They just want to know how it’s going to save them time, make them money or improve their image.
6. Specialized products should be advertised through direct media channels. Products offering something for everyone should be advertised through mass media channels.
7, Keep words to a minimum. Enough said.
8. Generally, prospects need to hear or see a message at least nine times. Generally, prospects need to hear or see a message at least nine times. Generally…
9. Stay ahead of customers. Stick with what works, but watch sales trends.
If trends start changing, products and/or marketing mix may need a change.
10. Free advertising is the best kind. If something is really newsworthy, let the media know.

The Ten Commandments of the Bible

Being aware of the Ten Commandments of the Bible will help business owners select a good marketing specialist. Most marketing specialists probably can’t recite the Commandments. But they should know they frown on stealing, lying, cheating, and a few other things.

A good marketing specialist will ask a lot of questions; they’ll give some free advice; they’ll provide a very close estimate and guarantee to work within the estimated boundaries. In short, they don’t lie, cheat or steal.

Smart business owners listen to their gut instincts to find a good marketing consultant. A good one will ask a lot of questions about the specific business, its history, its successes and failures. They’ll ask where the owner thinks the business should go; they’ll give some free advice; they’ll provide a very close estimate for the work they recommend; they’ll guarantee to work within the estimated boundaries. In short, they’ll care about the Client. If they don’t, move on. This sounds like simple advice, but it’s surprising how many business owners throw out these rules and don’t listen to their gut instincts.

By following the Ten Commandments of Marketing and the Ten Commandments of the Holy Bible, success will come easier. All business owners seem to do a lot of praying when it comes to the state of their business anyway, so it just seems fitting to tie the two together.
